From Guangzhou to Tremont!

Follow Beverly's journey from China to the United States as she joins our family in Tremont for the 2008-09 school year. We'll use this blog to help our friends and family get to know her, and to keep her family updated on what is happening in Tremont!

THS Girls Track Team

Yesterday we went to see Beverly run in several track events at our school. As you can see from the pictures, it was not a very nice day outside! It was forecast to be sunny and nice, but the clouds hung around all day and by race time, a light mist of rain was falling and the wind was blowing ... not a pretty spring day, for sure!

It looks like Beverly is running alone in the above picture ... and it's a long story, but actually she is alone on the track in this relay at this moment due to "technical difficulties" of the runner ahead of her in the 4x200 relay ... by the time the baton was passed to Beverly, the race was nearly over! But she dug in her heels and ran hard, as if she was competing for first place anyway!

We also watched her run the 100 meter dash. It has been a great experience for her and between basketball and track conditioning, she should be in pretty good physical shape now!

Enjoying Nice Weather!

Beverly has been enjoying the change in our weather from winter to something that feels a little more like home, I think! She and Abby have been taking lots of bike rides and today they found some time to play basketball on the driveway.

Tuesday night is her last home track meet, so my plan is to leave work a bit early so I can take some pictures of her there. Hopefully that will work out and I can share some here for her family.

Easter in Tremont

Beverly enjoyed her first Easter in the U.S today! The kids started the fun with their Easter baskets, loaded with lots of goodies.

Then Grandma & Grandpa Scott arrived to join us for Easter Dinner. We had a full table, as you can see ... here is the whole family, minus mom the photographer, as we sat down to eat!

We chose to do smoked turkey over the traditional ham dinner, just a personal favorite. Even though we had turkey for Thanksgiving, we had a few different side dishes today like salad and roasted vegetables. But probably most families in the U.S. had ham today for dinner!

Beverly really liked Grandma's black cherry jello with pineapple and black cherries ... and did not like the green onions! Then she capped off her meal with some of Grandma's famous Special K bars, so all was good!

Then it was outdoors to hunt in the yard for plastic eggs that were filled with candy. It was lots of fun, and the kids all had a great time! So I think Beverly's first Easter experience was one that she really enjoyed!

This afternoon we were looking at the calendar and realized it's only about eight weeks until her scheduled flight back to China. So hard to believe how fast the school year has gone, and that her time here is winding down. But we are excited to know that she will be back in Illinois to attend boarding school in the fall!

Beverly's First Egg Hunt!

This morning Beverly got to meet the Easter Bunny and see what U.S. Easter Egg Hunts are all about!

It was a little cool this morning, but it is starting to get nice and I think we are just about ready to put the winter coats away for the season! There are a few more pictures on our family blog.

The egg hunt is organized for kids through grade 5, so Beverly watched the action until the kids started to leave ... then she did find a few small chocolate eggs they had missed!

Tomorrow Grandma and Grandpa Scott are coming for Easter dinner, and we'll have another egg hunt here in our yard ... so watch for more pics!
